SCOPE OF PRACTICE

ReLPAG and its members are attending to the following burning issues, to establish clarity regarding the impact on practitioners and the practising of their profession.

On the 30th September ReLPAG has requested an urgent round table meeting with the Minister of Health in regard to the Scope of Practice of Psychologists.

Breaking News

After the Minister of Health, the Honourable Dr Zweli Mkhize, declared the 2011 and the subsequent 2018, Scope of Practice invalid, ReLPAG took further action. Our External Liaison portfolio holder, Dr Guru Kistnasamy took the matter up with various bodies including the CMS (Council of Medical Schemes). On 1 April 2020 Dr Guru Kistnasamy, received a letter from the Department of Health informing Medical Aids can no longer depend on the SoP and have to revert back to payment protocols as the position in 2008. ReLPAG thanks Dr Kistnasamy for his persistence in following up this matter on behalf of ReLPAG’s members.

This is regarded as a victory for the clients we serve as well as for our members and their families, specifically during this very difficult time.

The Educational Psychology Association of SA (EPASSA) has sought an opinion in the respect of the legal and ethical parameters governing the scope of practice of Educational Psychologists.
